Like much of the world, the Caribbean has been inundated with American movie culture. The same Hollywood hits found in an NYC theater can be found playing in movie houses across the Caribbean. Yet despite the existence of an ever growing Caribbean film industry, few Caribbean residents are aware of the films and talent in their own backyards. In an effort to showcase these regional and diaspora filmmakers, I (under the banner of my blog Rewind And Come Again) partnered with the Brooklyn based non-profit Caribbean Film Academy to launch the first annual Timehri Film Festival (TFF).

TFF’s mission is three-fold: 1. to showcase the work of Guyanese filmmakers in particular and Caribbean / Caribbean Diaspora filmmakers overall. 2. educate and inspire the Guyanese filmmaking community 3. encourage Guyanese and Caribbean audiences to support Caribbean films and filmmakers.

Held in Georgetown, Guyana, the inaugural TFF was a three day event held at the historic Moray House Trust. We sucessfully screened over 30 feature length and short films to enthusiastic audiences.
